Les Cats creations began about 16 years ago when Cathy Laskar and Lesley Roper met for the first time during a school field trip. When their daughters spotted each other at the zoo they wanted to spend the rest of the day together. Cathy and Lesley became instant friends and realized after a few hours that they had a lot in common and instantly they bonded. Both of them were very artsy and decided to get together one day just for fun to do some painting. They had no idea at the time that they would work so well together.
What is very unique about Cathy and Lesley's painting style is that they both work on the same painting at the same time. This unique style of painting came very naturally to both of them. They often don't even discuss or plan the design of the painting, they just start painting and the picture evolves. Over the years people have been fascinated by this style of painting as it is rather unusual. For Cathy and Lesley it's just the way it is, very natural and it just flows. Their deep bond, love and respect for each other is shown in their work. The colours flow so well that you'd never imagine that two artists have painted on one canvas. Cathy and Lesley often joke that they are so connected that they shared a brain, and that they were in deep trouble when they were separated because they could only speak half sentences!
Cathy owned a quaint little art gallery in Pickering village called the "Art & Soul" gallery. She promoted the works of local artists, visited schools with her travelling art show and taught Art Theatre classes to children. Lesley assisted Cathy in the gallery where they also sold their paintings.
Cathy and Lesley both have very busy lives and are in involved in other ventures. It's been difficult over the past few years to schedule time to paint but the timing is right for both of them and 2009 is the year where they plan to create many new paintings together.
